Efficient Work Sharpens Competitive Edge

── A Brief Introduction to Jiangxi Publishing Group

As a member of the working party of the “China Book International” program, the Jiangxi Publishing Group has developed a full understanding of the importance and necessity of the work to “go abroad,” encouraged by the situation that China has staged a campaign for all sectors of its culture to “go abroad.” At a vital moment in its reform and development, Jiangxi Publishing Group strengthened exchanges and co-operation with the outside world by holding book exhibitions and participating in international book fairs. It made full use of two markets and two resources to promote Chinese culture and broadened the channels for external co-operation. The efforts strengthened the group’s competitiveness.
“Setting the foothold in Jiangxi; going beyond Jiangxi; opening-up and uniting” are major contents in Jiangxi Publishing Group’s program for development. The group has mapped out a series of strategic and guiding plans based on macro-considerations. It has carried out a number of projects to implement the plans. In early, 2007, the group set up a panel to lead the work of promoting its publications to the outside world. It set some ways of thinking for its work, namely “strategic guidance, market orientation, projects promotion, gradual progress; strategic co-operation, taking publications abroad, joint development, ensuring work efficiency.” It took the “China Book International” program as a task of strategic importance. It specified targets for implementing the “go abroad” project and placed its main effort on exporting copyrights. Meanwhile, it established eight operational systems concerning policy, planning, fund and talents. The publication of Xiaolingdingdang’s The Magician Fairies in English version and the sales of A Talk about Chinese Characters and Easy Learning of Chinese were conducted under the program of “going abroad.” The Pipilu’s General Mobilization is rich in content and boasts a superb imagination. It represents the quality of Chinese children’s books and has been popular among Chinese and foreign children.
The group exported 64 copyrights to the United States, Vietnam, Chinese Taiwan and some other countries and regions in 2007.
In 2007, the group sold 3,284 titles in overseas markets, including the United States, Australia, Germany and China’s Hong Kong and Taiwan regions.
At the Moscow International Book Fair and Frankfurt International Book Fair held in September 2007, the English version of Fairy Tales of Good Virtues Series: The Magician Fairies written by Xiaolingdingdang, won great attention.
In October 2007, the Jiangxi Publishing Group signed framework agreements for strategic co-operation with Britain’s Octopus Publishing Group.
In November 2007, the group hosted a “Jiangxi Cultural Publishing Week” in the Monterey Park City, Los Angeles, the United States. The Publishing Week was a success and evoked a “craze for Jiangxi culture.” The exquisitely printed Classical Jiangxi became a hot cake among the readers.

The year 2008 will witness progress and innovation in Jiangxi Publishing Group’s work to “go abroad.”
