Guangming Daily, Beijing, October 13 (Journalist Xing Yuhao) - The 2008 German Frankfurt Book Fair will be held from October 15th this year. One hundred and eight Chinese publishing organizations will participate in the fair, with over 5300 kinds of books being exhibited. Since China will be the guest of honor of Frankfurt Book Fair 2009, this will be a great opportunity for China to have a warm-up for publicity in 2009.
Frankfurt Book fair is honored as the wind vane of the world’s culture exchange activities. It is the biggest book fair, and the most important platform for international book trading and intellectual property rights trading in the world. At present, around 75% copyright trading are completed at Frankfurt Book Fair. During the five day exhibition, the fair will display 400,000 quality books from around the world, and more than 7,000 international publishing professionals, 1,000 writers and over 15,000 journalists will be attracted to the fair.
The Chinese delegation will participate in the fair with lots of great books, including Chinese teaching textbooks such as The Commercial Press Learner’s Dictionary of Contemporary Chinese published by Commercial Press and Learn Chinese With Me published by People’s Education Press, books about Chinese culture such as Insights Into Chinese Culture published by Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press and China Symbols published by Yilin Publishing House, representative Chinese art books such as The Collected Works of Qi Baishi published by Hunan Publishing & Investment Holding Group, and popular children’s books such as The Secret of The Magic Gourd published by China Children’s Press & Publication Group and The Naughty Boy Ma Xiaotiao by Jieli Publishing House. Meanwhile, books introducing China’s thirty-year reform have also received great attention.
While exhibiting these books, the Chinese publishing circles will hold all kinds of cultural exchange activities at Frankfurt Book Fair. Different from the usual practice of holding activities at China booths, Chinese publishers will go global this year and play a more active role in international publishing markets. They will take part in the international copyright manager conference for the first time, and will discuss with foreign counterparts about how to purchase copyrights of Chinese books, and how to promote Chinese academic books by using digital promotion methods. They will invite 80 professionals in the field of international culture to China booths and attend China business breakfast seminar to introduce Chinese book markets. They will also hold press release about the activities to be held in 2009, as the guest of honor of Frankfurt Book Fair. Meanwhile, they will also conduct exchange activities with Catalan and Turkey, the guest of honor last year and this year.
