The Chancellor of German delivered a speech at the opening ceremony of the Frankfurt Book Fair on October 13th.
From Xinhua Net on October 13th (Journalist: Hu Xiaobing; Reporter: Zhang Jing ) On the evening of the 13th October, the opening ceremony of the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair was held in the Congress Center of Messe Frankfurt. The fair will last 6 days. China provided large delegation for the first time as the guest of honor. There are totally 7,300 exhibitors from more than 100 countries and regions making exchanges about books and copyright trading. It’s estimated by the organizer of the book fair that there will be 300,000 visitors this year.
That China participated in the 2009 Frankfurt Book Fair, as the guest of honor, bears significant meaning. Thirty years since the beginning of the reform and opening –up in China, the Chinese publishing industry has seen constant development and growth, which eventually made it a publishing giant in the world as it ranks number one as regards the scale of publication. In recent years, the Chinese publishing industry is vigorously implementing the “going global” policy. That Chinese participated in the Frankfurt Book Fair as the guest of honor demonstrates the development and growth of Chinese publishing industry after 30 years of the beginning of reform and opening up. Meanwhile, it is an important symbol of Chinese opening to the outside world as well as its integration into the world publishing industry.
